APGA Accuses Senator Abaribe of Misleading Public

APGA Abia chapter accuses Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of misrepresentation, insisting he was suspended, not expelled, amid calls for Senate intervention

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has accused Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of misrepresenting his status, insisting he was suspended and not expelled from the party.

The briefing took place in Umuahia on Thursday, 19 March 2026, with state chairman Ambassador Sunday Onukwubiri and senior party officials addressing the media.

APGA maintained that Senator Abaribe’s suspension followed allegations of anti-party conduct.

Party leaders challenged him to provide proof of his claimed expulsion and urged the Senate leadership to act should he refuse to resign.

“This is not a witch-hunt. We are acting in good conscience. Senator Abaribe betrayed the party and should relinquish the mandate,” the party said.

The state chapter added that Abaribe later resigned voluntarily after failing to respond to the allegations.

“He was invited to respond but did not. He later resigned and is now attempting to mislead the public by claiming he was sacked,” a senior party official said.

APGA further argued that his continued presence in the Senate lacks legal backing, stressing that the mandate belongs to the party and voters, not the individual office holder.

Responding to the accusations, Senator Abaribe dismissed the claims, asserting that his indefinite suspension effectively pushed him out of the party.

“When you place someone on indefinite suspension for over six months, what does that mean? It simply means the person no longer belongs to the party,” he said.

The senator also rejected allegations that he sought a dismissal letter, calling them “scandalous and insulting,” and added, “My name is Enyinnaya Abaribe. There are certain things you should know I cannot do.”

He emphasised that his electoral success in Abia South was based on personal support and questioned why his defection should attract consequences when others have acted similarly.
