Enugu PDP parallel congress claims dismissed by Steve Oruruo, who insists party unity remains intact and electronic registration is ongoing
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Barrister Steve Oruruo, on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, in Enugu, Nigeria, dismissed reports of parallel congresses within the state chapter of the party, firmly rejecting what he described as attempts to create confusion over the party’s legitimate leadership structure under the Enugu PDP parallel congress claims dismissed narrative.
Oruruo, who addressed party stakeholders during the formal rollout of the PDP’s electronic membership registration exercise, insisted that the alleged parallel congresses were baseless, lacking legal foundation, and should be disregarded in their entirety.

He said the introduction of the e-registration system marked a significant and progressive shift in the party’s internal administration, designed to strengthen membership verification and build a credible database of supporters across Enugu State.
According to him, more than 260 ward representatives, alongside local government coordinators, had been deployed to ensure effective grassroots mobilisation and accurate data capture across communities, including rural areas where digital access remains limited.
The PDP chairman emphasised that the success of the initiative depended on discipline, coordination, and what he described as a renewed commitment to organisational strength, stressing that the party must rely on verifiable membership figures rather than assumptions.
In a more assertive tone, Oruruo described the reported parallel congresses as legally invalid, citing a Court of Appeal judgment which he said affirmed the suspension of certain party actors and nullified any alternative structures being promoted outside recognised channels.
He warned that internal divisions could weaken party cohesion if not properly managed, but maintained that ongoing disagreements remained within the scope of democratic engagement and could be resolved through dialogue and due process.
Oruruo further dismissed concerns about possible deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing such fears as unfounded and contrary to the party’s constitutional standing.
He reaffirmed his leadership position, insisting that any change in party structure must follow due process through a properly convened congress, adding that the current administration remained focused on reconciliation and stability.
