Pinnacle Movement Dumps Mbah for Obi, ADC Switch

Pinnacle Movement dumps Mbah, switches to Peter Obi and ADC, citing abandonment by Enugu governor ahead of the 2027 elections

The Pinnacle Movement, a political support group that backed Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah during the 2023 general elections, has formally announced its defection to Labour Party leader Peter Obi and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing alleged neglect by the governor since assuming office.

The Pinnacle Movement dumps Mbah decision was confirmed in a statement attributed to the group’s Secretary, Mr John Ikemefuna, following a meeting of its zonal, local government, and ward executives held in Enugu.

According to the group, the resolution marks a complete realignment of its political loyalty ahead of the 2027 general elections, with members unanimously agreeing to withdraw support for Governor Mbah’s re-election bid.

Ikemefuna stated that the movement would henceforth recognise Mr Peter Obi as its principal political reference point while also pledging support for all ADC candidates in Enugu State.

As part of the restructuring, the group also announced a name change from Pinnacle Movement to Arise and Shine Movement, a slogan associated with the ADC, signalling a formal ideological and political shift.

The group further clarified that members who do not support the new direction are free to exit quietly and continue their political affiliations independently.

Leaders of the movement alleged that despite their significant mobilisation efforts during the 2023 elections, they received no official engagement or recognition from Governor Mbah or his representatives.

They also claimed that no financial or logistical support was received from the governor or the Peoples Democratic Party during the campaign period, insisting their efforts were driven solely by voluntary commitment.

The group criticised what it described as a lack of communication and inclusion since Mbah assumed office, arguing that the absence of engagement contributed to their decision to withdraw support.

Political observers say the development could reshape grassroots mobilisation dynamics in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 elections, especially as opposition parties intensify efforts to expand their influence.

The Pinnacle Movement maintained that its decision reflects disappointment but also a renewed commitment to what it described as “people-centred leadership” under its new political alignment.
