Fubara Dismisses Insecurity Reports in Rivers State

Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara says the state is safe for tourism, investment, and events, dismissing exaggerated reports of insecurity

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has rejected claims that the state is plagued by insecurity, describing them as politically motivated attempts to tarnish the state’s reputation.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Python Golf Club’s 6th Chief Ikenna Okafor Pro-Amateur Championship in Port Harcourt, Fubara insisted that Rivers State remains calm, welcoming, and open for investment, events, and tourism.

His comments come amid renewed media reports highlighting isolated security incidents, including cult-related violence. Recently, the State Police Command arrested ten suspected cult members in the Doubu area of Port Harcourt.

Governor Fubara argued that these reports have been deliberately exaggerated to serve political interests. He noted that the significant turnout of golfers and visitors from across Africa at the tournament contradicts claims that the state is unsafe.

“More than half of what you read about Rivers State is manufactured… Some people are determined to make us look terrible, even when it isn’t justified,” Fubara said.

He also accused detractors of exploiting past political crises in the state to distort public perception, emphasizing that security agencies have restored calm and stability. Fubara commended the joint security team for their effective performance in maintaining order.

Participants at the golf championship reportedly moved freely, socialized, and enjoyed the event without experiencing any threat, reinforcing the Governor’s claims.

Fubara further pledged continued government support for the tournament, plans to revive the Governor’s Cup, and improvements to the club’s facilities. He encouraged visitors to share their positive experiences, highlighting Rivers State as a safe and welcoming destination.
