The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has confirmed that eight aspirants have indicated interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election under its platform, amid rising political activity within the party.

State ADC chairman-elect, Dr Chukwudi Dimkpa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday night in Port Harcourt, noting that the party has witnessed a significant surge in political engagement ahead of the general elections.

Dimkpa also commended the decision of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for picking the party’s presidential nomination form, describing it as a major boost to ADC’s national profile.

He said the development reflects growing confidence in the party as a platform for credible leadership and democratic participation.

According to him, the increasing number of aspirants signals a shift in political perception, with ADC emerging as a preferred destination for experienced politicians and professionals.

The statement revealed that those interested in the Rivers State governorship ticket include a former Secretary to the State Government, a former member of the House of Representatives, and a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

Others are said to include another former lawmaker, a former NIMASA chairman, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, a former Chief Medical Director of UPTH, as well as a renowned architect and private sector entrepreneurs.

Dimkpa stated that the party is also attracting interest in other elective positions, including the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats across Rivers State.

He described the development as evidence that ADC is becoming a viable political alternative rather than a fringe party.

The chairman-elect said the party is now being viewed as a platform that brings together competence, experience, youth engagement and grassroots participation.

He added that for years, many qualified Nigerians stayed away from politics, but the current trend shows increasing involvement of credible individuals in the political process.

Dimkpa reaffirmed that ADC in Rivers State will continue to uphold internal democracy, transparency and peaceful engagement as preparations intensify towards the 2027 elections.
