Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, disclosed the plan on Tuesday during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting at INEC’s headquarters in Jos.
Sadiq stated that the second phase of Continuous Voter Registration, which began on January 5 and will run until April 17, 2026, would now include the proposed new registration areas.
“Our plan is for the new centres to begin registration on February 2, 2026, and it will go on for fifty days,” he said, adding that the exercise is open to Nigerians aged 18 and above, including first-time registrants and those updating their information.
The commissioner highlighted challenges in the first phase, such as incomplete registrations and uncollected PVCs, urging citizens to collect their cards and warning against multiple registrations.
“Any attempt at multiple registrations may lead to delisting from the register,” he said.
Between January 5 and 16, INEC recorded 1,720 new registrations, 948 transfers, 754 updates, and 468 replacements across the state’s 17 local government areas.
Sadiq stressed that voter registration is crucial for a transparent and inclusive democracy, urging citizens to act responsibly and encourage participation.
State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina, who attended the meeting, commended INEC for consulting stakeholders and called on politicians to follow electoral rules.
