PDP Chairman Turaki Confident Amid Osun Exit Uncertainty

PDP Chairman Turaki affirms party unity and readiness despite Osun Governor Adeleke’s exit and ambassadorial nominations.

Turaki also stated that former governors nominated for ambassadorial positions had not formally contacted the party’s leadership.

Turaki spoke at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, following the formal handover from former Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagun. He emphasised that the PDP derives its strength from its people, not solely from its governors or National Assembly members, and stressed the party’s readiness for the 2027 general election.

“Even if what we saw on social media is true, Governor Adeleke has the constitutional right to freedom of association,” Turaki said, highlighting that any withdrawal from the party would be properly documented and reported.

Regarding ambassadorial nominations, Turaki confirmed, “For the former governors who have been nominated, we are yet to receive any indication from them seeking permission or notifying us of the appointment.” He added that the party would consider any requests on their merits.

Damagun, who handed over the leadership, described the PDP as a party resilient in the face of challenges and committed to overcoming obstacles.

Turaki praised the outgoing leadership, noting that their guidance would support a seamless transition and continuity of party operations.

The PDP chairman also called on the Federal Government to urgently address Nigeria’s security challenges, pointing to rising kidnappings and killings nationwide.

He announced that expelled members had been formally certified to prevent dual-party registration.
