PDP 2027 Presidential Candidate Must Be Southern, Says Rep Inuwa Mohammed Bassi

PDP 2027 presidential candidate should come from the South, insists House Rep Inuwa Mohammed Bassi. He emphasizes zoning fairness, party unity, and a strong campaign to secure victory in the 2027 elections

House of Representatives member Hon. Inuwa Mohammed Bassi has declared that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) can only win the 2027 presidential election if it fields a southern candidate.

Speaking in Yola on Wednesday, the lawmaker representing Jada, Toungo, Ganye, and Mayo-Belwa Federal constituency said the party’s zoning formula does not favor the North presenting the presidential candidate in 2027.

“The only thing that can give PDP victory in 2027 is to bring out a presidential candidate from the zone the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress has zoned its presidential candidate,” Bassi said.

He added that this move would break down barriers of ethnicity, religion, and regional politics, allowing the PDP to combine its northern dominance with southern votes to secure the presidency.

On the recent mass defections from PDP to APC, Bassi described the moves as mere political trade fairs that won’t affect the PDP’s chances in 2027.

“If they are politically powerful, why did the PDP not win in 2023?” he questioned.

According to Bassi, defectors often seek positions and patronage rather than bring new ideas to their new parties.

He confidently predicted that by 2026, millions will be rushing to join the PDP, noting that the APC currently lacks a credible campaign project.

He rhetorically asked about the value of infrastructural projects like super highways when Nigerians are still grappling with hunger, suggesting APC is out of touch with the people’s needs.

Bassi also praised Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State for firmly rooting PDP’s influence in the state.

“Fintiri’s achievements have planted our party in the depth of our people’s hearts. It’s not like the other states where people switch allegiances,” he said.
