Oyo Governor Makinde proposes N891.99bn 2026 budget with major allocations for infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday presented a N891.99 billion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year, marking a significant increase from the N684 billion approved for 2025. The proposal was made at the state House of Assembly in Ibadan.

The presentation ceremony attracted prominent traditional rulers, including the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, reflecting broad interest in the state’s fiscal priorities.

Governor Makinde outlined that N389.34 billion of the proposed budget is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N502.65 billion is allocated to capital expenditure.

He further highlighted the sectoral breakdown, emphasising strategic investments in critical areas: the infrastructure sector leads with N210.02 billion, education is allocated N155.21 billion, health N70.81 billion, and agriculture N19.99 billion. Other multisectoral allocations total N435.9 billion.

The governor’s budget proposal underscores his administration’s commitment to strengthening core sectors that drive economic growth, improve public services, and support sustainable development across Oyo State.
