He made the statement during a courtesy visit by prominent politicians and elders from the Oke-Ogun, Oyo North zone, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Friday.
The respected traditional ruler highlighted the contributions of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Bola Ige, neither of whom were Ibadan indigenes but made significant developments in the city while in office.
Oba Ladoja encouraged other zones interested in the governorship to engage Ibadan thoughtfully, leveraging the city’s population and influence to realise their ambitions.
Reflecting on his previous tenure as governor, he revealed his plan to support a deputy from Ogbomoso, Dr Adebayo Alao-Akala, for succession, with a deputy from Ibadan, ensuring a fair rotation of leadership across all zones.
“The quality of the person assuming the position should be what matters most,” Ladoja emphasised. “Other zones must present candidates we can support, trust, and who will serve diligently.”
Several dignitaries, including former Lagos State Commissioner Dr Ismail Adewusi, former Oyo State Commissioner Mr Adebayo Olagbenro, and former deputy governor Chief Iyiola Oladokun, praised Ladoja’s leadership and social influence.
They expressed confidence that his experience would foster peace and development in Ibadanland.
Adewusi lauded Ladoja’s extensive political and economic network, while Olagbenro highlighted his dedication to justice and unity.
Oladokun affirmed that Ladoja’s rich experience in politics and business uniquely positions him to lead effectively as a traditional ruler.
