Okpara Kinsmen Back Otti Amid Former Governors’ Threat

Okpara kinsmen back Governor Alex Otti, urging Abia voters to choose freely despite former governors’ threat to block his re-election

Kinsmen of the late former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Dr Michael Okpara, have expressed support for Governor Alex Otti, warning that threats by former Abia State governors Orji Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu to block his re-election are not aligned with the popular will.

The message was delivered by Uzodinma Okpara, son of the late Premier, on Wednesday in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Uzodinma urged that the electorate be allowed to freely choose their leaders, highlighting the progress the state has made under Otti’s Labour Party administration.

“The people should be allowed to choose who governs them. Abia is emerging from past years of underdevelopment,” Uzodinma said.

He challenged claims of inflated contract costs, stressing that critics should reconcile state revenue with expenditures before making accusations.

Uzodinma cited improvements in major towns including Umuahia and Aba, noting cleaner environments, better infrastructure, and functioning educational facilities since Otti assumed office.

Supporting the remarks, Umuahia North LGA Chairman Smart Iheoma said Governor Otti is not misappropriating local government allocations and should be held accountable for every fund received.

Obi Aguocha, member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, added that the livelihood of most Abia residents has improved under the current administration.
