Osun Election Security Concerns grow as Adeleke’s campaign group urges agencies to safeguard voters ahead of the 15 August 2026 poll
Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesman for the Imole Campaign Council supporting Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has called on security agencies to strengthen preparations for the 15 August 2026 governorship election, warning against political violence and intimidation during the electoral process.

The concerns emerged after the campaign organisation said its engagements with residents across the state indicated growing concerns about maintaining a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the poll.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the council urged the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other relevant security bodies to protect citizens’ rights and ensure that the election reflects the genuine choice of Osun voters.
“Our independent assessment and engagements with voters across the state reveal a common sentiment. The people of Osun are prepared to vote decisively against the APC, driven largely by widespread concerns over what many residents describe as a pattern of political intimidation, violence, and insecurity allegedly associated with actors loyal to the opposition party,” the council said.
The allegations were directed at opposition figures, although the council did not provide specific incidents or evidence in support of the claims. Political parties and candidates involved in the election are expected to rely on lawful campaign activities and the electoral process to present their positions to voters.
The campaign group also highlighted what it described as achievements of Adeleke’s administration, including regular payment of workers’ salaries, infrastructure upgrades, revitalisation of public institutions and increased attention to citizens’ welfare.
According to the council, the performance of the governor’s administration would remain a central issue as voters decide the direction of the state during the election.
The Imole Campaign Council said security agencies must remain impartial and ensure that no individual or group influences the outcome of the election through fear or coercion.
“The decision on August 15 belongs to the people of Osun State. They deserve an election that reflects their freely expressed will, not one manipulated through fear, violence, or coercion,” the council stated.
The call comes as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election, with parties seeking to mobilise supporters and convince voters across the state.
Election security remains a major focus in Nigeria’s electoral cycle, with stakeholders frequently emphasising the need for peaceful campaigns, transparent processes and effective coordination among security agencies.
