Osun Election Intimidation concerns rise as Governor Ademola Adeleke urges voters to participate freely ahead of the August 15 governorship poll
Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, has urged residents to participate fully in the 15 August 2026 governorship election, calling on voters to ignore alleged threats and intimidation while exercising their democratic rights.

Speaking during a church service in Osogbo on Sunday, Adeleke said residents should vote according to their conscience and expressed confidence in securing a second term based on what he described as the achievements of his administration in workers’ welfare, healthcare, education, infrastructure and agriculture.
The governor’s appeal comes amid rising political activity and concerns over security as parties intensify campaigns ahead of the poll.
The issue of Osun Election Intimidation has become a major talking point among political groups seeking assurances that voters will be able to participate freely.
Adeleke accused opposition actors of turning to violence after losing public support, although he did not provide specific details during his remarks.
He assured residents that security arrangements were being strengthened to protect voters throughout the electoral process.
Meanwhile, the Imole Campaign Council, the organisation supporting Adeleke’s re-election bid, has raised concerns over what it described as a tense political atmosphere in the state.
The council alleged that some political figures, including leaders linked to the Accord Party, had faced targeted arrests ahead of the election and called on security agencies to maintain neutrality and professionalism.
The group appealed to Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu and other security chiefs to safeguard the democratic process and prevent actions that could undermine public confidence in the election.
Beyond the ruling party’s concerns, other political actors have also weighed in on the electoral environment.
Accord Party presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim urged party members in Osun to remain committed despite internal disagreements within the organisation.
He criticised what he described as disloyal actions but encouraged supporters to focus on the upcoming election.
The Osun State chapter of the African Action Congress also raised concerns about political accountability after some governorship candidates declined to participate in a televised debate.
The party argued that public debates provide voters with an opportunity to assess candidates and their policy positions.
From the opposition camp, All Progressives Congress chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye called on the police to remain impartial and ensure a peaceful and credible election.
Oyintiloye stressed the importance of protecting voters before, during and after the poll, adding that a secure environment would be essential for maintaining confidence in the electoral process.

With days remaining before the governorship election, attention is expected to remain on the conduct of political parties, the role of security agencies and the ability of stakeholders to ensure a peaceful contest that reflects the will of Osun residents.
