Northern Leaders Critically Assess Tinubu’s Performance in Kaduna

Held at the symbolic Arewa House, former residence of the late Premier Sir Ahmadu Bello, the gathering was convened by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation to evaluate the federal government’s delivery on campaign promises and its engagement with the North.

The session, themed “Assessing electoral promises: fostering government-citizens engagement for national unity,” drew high-profile attendees from the 19 Northern states and the FCT—ranging from ex-governors and ministers to civil society leaders and clerics.

Although discussions remained largely civil, undercurrents of concern emerged over perceived marginalisation in federal appointments, infrastructure projects, and funding allocations.

Abubakar Gambo Umar, Director-General of the Foundation, noted that the event follows a 2022 session where Tinubu, then a candidate, pledged specific commitments to Northern development.

“This is a critical litmus test,” Umar said. “We’re measuring actions, not words.”

The review comes at a time when insecurity, inflation, and unemployment continue to weigh heavily on the North, and calls for inclusive governance have intensified.
