Mbaka Claims Jonathan Lost 2015 Election Over Ignored Advice

Jonathan 2015 election loss was due to ignored advice, says Fr Ejike Mbaka, who claims he warned the former president before the polls

Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election after allegedly failing to act on advice given to him before the polls.

Mbaka made the remarks in a viral video in which he responded to renewed public discussion about his past political comments and their alleged influence on the outcome of the 2015 election.

Jonathan 2015 election loss was revisited by the cleric amid online reactions linking his previous statements to the former president’s defeat. Mbaka, however, rejected claims that he was responsible for Jonathan’s political setback.

According to him, Jonathan’s failure was a result of ignoring what he described as critical counsel, insisting that the former president chose not to act on his recommendations.

Mbaka said he had advised Jonathan to remove the then Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, whom he claimed had already been compromised at the time.

“Jonathan didn’t fail because I failed him; he decided to fail,” Mbaka said in the video, adding that his advice was not taken seriously.

The cleric maintained that the outcome of the election was tied to what he described as political miscalculations rather than external influence.

His comments have reignited debate on the intersection of religion and politics in Nigeria, particularly the role of clerics in shaping public opinion during election cycles.

Mbaka also addressed recent backlash on social media, where critics revisited his past political interventions, insisting that his statements were being misunderstood.

The renewed remarks are expected to further fuel discussions around the events leading up to the 2015 general elections, which saw Jonathan concede defeat to then-candidate Muhammadu Buhari.
