Lagos APC criticises opposition parties for division and lack of strategy ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has criticised opposition parties for failing to present coherent alternatives, warning that internal division could make the 2027 general elections predictable. The statement was issued on 9 March 2026 by Seye Oladejo, the party’s state spokesperson, in Lagos.

According to Oladejo, leading opposition parties have been characterised by internal disagreement, populist rhetoric, and political opportunism, rather than the development of policy-driven platforms.
He argued that prominent figures within the opposition are prioritising personal ambitions over strengthening party structures, weakening their ability to function as a unified political bloc.
“Instead of building consensus and strengthening party structures, leading figures within the opposition appear locked in a contest of individual aspirations. The result is a fragmented political bloc unable to present a coherent national alternative,” the statement said.
The Lagos APC emphasised that democracy works best when opposition parties are organised, policy-focused, and capable of providing viable options to voters.
It argued that preparations for the 2027 elections so far have shown little evidence of serious mobilisation, policy articulation, or structured political engagement among opposition groups.
In contrast, the party highlighted its ongoing initiatives at both federal and state levels, pointing to economic restructuring, infrastructural development, and social intervention programmes as evidence of a governance-focused agenda.
Oladejo asserted that these efforts demonstrate the APC’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and improving citizens’ lives.
The statement concluded with a call for all political actors to elevate the quality of democratic engagement, urging debates to focus on policy, organisation, and clear governance proposals rather than rhetoric.

“By the time the 2027 elections arrive, Nigerians will evaluate leaders based on performance, vision, and their ability to provide solutions to the country’s challenges,” Oladejo added.
