PDP intensifies pressure amid Kwara Contract Scandal, demanding answers over an alleged $800m deal linked to Governor AbdulRazaq’s brother
The Kwara State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday intensified a fierce exchange over what the opposition has termed the Kwara Contract Scandal, following allegations that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq secretly awarded an eight hundred million dollar contract to his elder brother, Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq.

The claim was first made on Wednesday by Ilyasu Ibrahim, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and long-standing supporter of the Ò Tọ̀ Gẹ́ movement, during a radio programme in Ilorin.
In a rebuttal issued on Thursday, Commissioner for Communications Bolanle Olukoju dismissed the allegation as false, malicious and designed to stir mischief.
She insisted no such contract had been awarded, adding that the state had not received any project of that size from the Federal Government.
The government further described Alimi AbdulRazaq as a respected legal practitioner and Bencher who is not a contractor, calling the claim reckless and unfounded.
The administration also criticised the radio station that hosted the programme, warning that airing unverified claims risked undermining public order.
It urged the National Broadcasting Commission to review the broadcast, while stating that any private citizens defamed during the discussion reserved the right to seek legal redress.
The PDP, however, accused the government of deliberately skirting the central question. Publicity Secretary Olusegun Olusola Adewara said the administration had mobilised its machinery to defend what he called a private family matter, arguing that the criticism of the radio station amounted to intimidation rather than transparency.
He insisted the government must answer whether the governor secretly awarded an eight hundred million dollar contract to his brother.
The opposition demanded a direct explanation from Governor AbdulRazaq, a public statement from his brother, and a comprehensive list of all contracts awarded since 2019.
It also called for a forensic review of a previous transformer contract allegedly linked to another AbdulRazaq, claiming the recipient received eighty-five per cent upfront but failed to deliver.

The PDP warned that repeated controversies involving the surname AbdulRazaq created a troubling pattern, adding that Kwarans were alert to what it described as a growing cloud of suspicion.
