The state’s Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, announced the results on Monday in Ilorin, noting a 27 percent increase in Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) enrolment between 2019 and 2025.

The number of candidates rose from 45,761 to 57,787 during this period, with female participation growing slightly from 47.89 percent to 48.33 percent.

“Between 2019 and 2025, the BECE has experienced sustained growth and gradual gains in equity,” Olohungbebe said.

“In 2025 alone, enrolment increased from 56,508 in 2024 to 57,787, while attendance improved in most subjects.”

The Commissioner highlighted notable improvements in pass rates across core subjects:

  •  Mathematics: +2.23 percentage points
  •  English: +2.94 percentage points
  •  National Values: +4.51 percentage points
  •  History: +3.72 percentage points
  •  Pre-Vocational Studies: +3.33 percentage points

Average scores in English, Mathematics, National Values, and Pre-Vocational Studies also rose, reflecting deeper improvements beyond just passing grades.

“These results show that more candidates are sitting for the examination and a larger share is achieving success,” Olohungbebe remarked.

“The system is trending in the right direction.”

Parents, guardians, and school principals have been urged to collect students’ results from the Ministry of Education starting Thursday, September 11, 2025.
