Former Buhari aide Bashir Ahmad says Kwankwaso won’t deputise Obi, dismissing calls for a joint 2027 presidential ticket
Former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has dismissed calls for a joint 2027 presidential ticket between ex-Kano governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and ex-Anambra governor, Peter Obi.

The statement was made in a post on X on Monday in reaction to ongoing speculation about the potential alliance.
Ahmad said those expecting Kwankwaso to accept a vice-presidential role under Obi were overlooking political realities.
“There is simply no realistic scenario where Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso would deputise Peter Obi. Those pushing for it need to wake up to the political realities on the ground,” Ahmad wrote.
He added that Kwankwaso has long commanded a consistent political base and structure, making a subordinate role politically unfeasible.
Ahmad noted that if a partnership were ever considered, a reverse arrangement with Obi as deputy would be the only workable option.
Calls for a joint ticket have gained traction among supporters of both 2023 presidential candidates.
Earlier in February, pro-Kwankwaso groups led by Abba Sadauki Gwale suggested that an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance could help address the nation’s current challenges.
Similarly, a former Enugu governorship candidate, Dr. Alex Chukwuemeka Obiechina, said such a ticket would present a significant challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.

Ahmad’s comments are likely to shape discussions among political analysts and party supporters as Nigeria approaches the next general election cycle.
