Kwankwaso rejects North-North ticket for 2027 election, urging a balanced North-South arrangement for unity and fair representation in Nigeria
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has rejected the idea of a North-North presidential ticket for the 2027 general election, warning that such a political arrangement could undermine national unity and weaken Nigeria’s democracy.

The position was disclosed by his spokesperson, Habibu Saleh, during an interview with Daily Post, where he addressed growing speculation around possible alliances ahead of the next presidential race.
Saleh stated that while discussions have emerged linking Kwankwaso with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a ticket featuring candidates from the same geopolitical zone is neither realistic nor beneficial to national cohesion.
“We must be sensitive enough to present a ticket that reflects balance between North and South,” Saleh said, stressing the need for inclusiveness in Nigeria’s political structure.
He warned that a same-region or same-religion ticket would deepen divisions and damage democratic stability, adding that Nigerians expect fairness in leadership representation.
Saleh also dismissed claims that Kwankwaso’s political influence is limited to Kano State, describing such assertions as misleading and reductive.
He pointed to the 2023 presidential election, where Kwankwaso secured about 906,000 votes in Kano State and an additional 500,000 votes across other parts of the country, despite contesting on a relatively less established political platform.
According to him, the result demonstrates that Kwankwaso’s political reach extends beyond regional boundaries, even without the backing of sitting governors or strong political structures.

The remarks come amid early positioning and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as political actors begin to test possible coalitions and regional balances.
