Kano Govt denies false security scare after council meeting

Kano security scare dismissed as government says no credible threat after security council briefing

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Sunday in Kano assured residents that the state remains safe and stable, dismissing widespread rumours of an impending security crisis following a State Security Council meeting attended by all service chiefs.

The governor received an extensive briefing on security operations across the state before directing an updated assessment of surveillance, deployment and intelligence structures.

The following day, Director-General of Media and Publicity Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa issued a formal statement stressing that no credible intelligence pointed to any imminent breach of public peace.

He described the circulating alerts as false, sensational and deliberately crafted to alarm residents.

The government condemned what it called a worrying rise in fabricated security advisories shared online and warned that individuals responsible for such posts could face prosecution.

Dawakin-Tofa said coordination had been strengthened with security intelligence services, law enforcement bodies and community networks, with officers now operating heightened surveillance in all districts.

Abdullahi Bature, speaking within the same statement, said security units had been fully briefed and strategically deployed to ensure rapid response to any potential incident.

He added that every part of Kano remained under active monitoring supported by what he called a robust security architecture.

Residents were urged to remain calm, continue with daily activities and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.

The administration said it is intensifying intelligence gathering, enhancing inter-agency collaboration and deploying improved security tools to safeguard communities.
