Bala Mohammed Denies 2027 Rumour of Jonathan Running Mate Deal

Bala Mohammed dismisses reports linking him to a 2027 running mate deal with Goodluck Jonathan, calling the claims false and speculative

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports suggesting he may be part of a 2027 presidential ticket alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing the claims as false and speculative.

The governor clarified the position following widespread speculation that he could return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to serve as Jonathan’s running mate in a factional arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The reports emerged after Jonathan was reportedly named as a presidential candidate by a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki at a special national convention held in Abuja.

Jonathan, however, was not present at the event, although his certificate of return was received on his behalf by a House of Representatives member, Fred Agbedi.

The development triggered further speculation on social media, with claims that Bala Mohammed could be drafted into a joint ticket.

Responding in a post on X, the governor dismissed the reports and urged the public to disregard them.

He stressed that his political focus remained on his current ambition to contest the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” he wrote.

“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate. Thank you.”

In a separate reaction, Kaura Independent Communication also rejected the claims, describing them as politically motivated and misleading.

The group insisted that the governor remains committed to his political plans under the APM and is focused on strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

It added that there was no arrangement between Bala Mohammed and the PDP faction involving Goodluck Jonathan.

The statement further urged the public, party members and media organisations to rely only on official communication channels for accurate political information.

Bala Mohammed recently left the PDP for the APM amid ongoing internal disputes within the opposition party.
