On Monday, at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse, Governor Umar Namadi celebrated the graduation of 400 trainees who have completed a comprehensive training programme.

Governor Namadi explained that each trainee will manage half a hectare of date palms—roughly 200 trees each—resulting in a total plantation area of 200 hectares statewide.

This initiative not only equips young people with practical skills but also supports them financially with a monthly allowance for two years, industrial boreholes, and essential farming inputs.

The governor described the programme as a vital boost to Jigawa’s agricultural tradition, emphasising the economic and environmental benefits of date palm cultivation.

He noted the crop’s role in increasing rural incomes, encouraging economic diversification, and combating desertification.

Trainees were selected equally from Birniwa, Yankwashi, Babura, and Sule Tankarkar Local Government Areas.

Governor Namadi underscored the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable farming, urging more young people to embrace agriculture as a reliable path to reducing unemployment.

Participants expressed enthusiasm about their new opportunities. Aminu Musa from Birniwa LGA said the training gave him hope to support his family, while Yusuf Sani from Babura LGA highlighted the financial and technical support as a crucial step towards independence.
