Jigawa teachers salary suspension ends as 245 educators apologize for prolonged absenteeism and commit to professionalism
Jigawa teachers’ salary suspension has ended following the apology and signing of undertakings by 245 educators who had their pay withheld due to prolonged absenteeism and unauthorized delegation of duties.

The Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) convened a meeting at the NUT Conference Hall in Dutse to address the misconduct, which involved teachers absent from their posts for periods ranging from two months to three years while still drawing salaries.
Professor Haruna Musa, SUBEB’s Executive Chairman, emphasized the government’s zero tolerance for negligence and noted that the board’s crackdown is part of a broader effort to improve educational quality and reduce out-of-school children.
He stated, “The era of teachers neglecting their duties is over, as there is now a system to restore the dignity of basic education.”
Dr. Hauwa Babura, Technical Adviser on Education, reinforced the government’s commitment under Governor Umar Namadi to revitalizing the sector and urged teachers to uphold their responsibilities.

Following the meeting, the teachers formally apologized to the governor, pledged better conduct, and signed letters of undertaking, signaling a renewed commitment to professionalism and ensuring that students receive the education they deserve.
