Speaking during a visit to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, where victims are receiving treatment, the governor, represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, described the incident as unacceptable.

He assured the public that those responsible would face the full weight of the law.

Governor Oyebanji sympathised with the victims and confirmed that the state government would cover their medical bills.

He said a team was immediately dispatched to assess the situation, expressing relief that no life was lost.

The governor emphasised that soldiers and traders should have resolved disagreements without resorting to violence and insisted that any unlawful activity should be reported to the police.

He stressed that professionalism and emotional control are vital to preventing such clashes.

He warned that Ekiti under his leadership would not tolerate oppression of citizens or disrespect towards uniformed personnel.

“There must be a balance,” he said, urging both civilians and military personnel to exercise restraint.

The Chairman of Fayose Market, Mr Adeleye Adekunle, said the clash began as a misunderstanding between a soldier and a trader but escalated due to what he described as the soldier’s uncontrollable anger.

He added that the issue would be resolved through a tripartite meeting involving the state government, military authorities, and market representatives.
