Ekiti State Executive Council underwent a major restructuring on Monday as Governor Biodun Oyebanji dismissed several commissioners and special advisers from his cabinet with immediate effect.

The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, who confirmed that the affected officials were to hand over to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Although the government did not give a specific reason for the shake-up, it is believed to be part of a broader realignment ahead of Governor Oyebanji’s recently declared second-term bid.
The Ekiti State Executive Council dissolution was not total. Notably, some strategic cabinet members were exempted from the shake-up. These include:
- The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice
- Commissioner for Health and Human Services
- Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security
- Commissioner for Education
- Commissioner for Works
- Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives
- Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion
- Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS
Additionally, all Directors General who are statutory members of the Executive Council are to retain their positions.
These include the DG Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), DG SDGs and Project Monitoring, and DG Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
The move has sparked political speculation, with analysts suggesting it is a strategic effort by Governor Oyebanji to reposition his administration for greater performance ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial race.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, the governor thanked the affected officials for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours.
No names were officially released at the time of the announcement, though insiders suggest that political loyalty and performance may have played a role in determining who was retained.
Governor Oyebanji has maintained that his administration is focused on delivering sustainable development across key sectors.
Recently, he claimed that over ₦50 billion has been invested in agribusiness in the last three years — a move aimed at boosting the state’s economic independence.
