During a visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), NPC’s Project Manager, Mrs. Asabe Ndahi, emphasized that the FCT elections will serve as a “mirror” for the 2027 general elections, making security preparations critical.
The committee highlighted AMAC, Gwagwalada, Bwari, Kuje, and Kwali as key areas of concern:
AMAC: Risks from candidate threats and vote-buying tendencies.
Gwagwalada: Indigene-settler tensions and history of political thuggery, particularly in Jiwa community.
Bwari: Farmer-herder conflicts, kidnapping, and limited security presence.
Kuje & Kwali: Vulnerable due to proximity to Kaduna and Niger States, past kidnapping cases, and intra-party disputes.
Ndahi explained that the NPC uses an election offences tracking system and monitors incidents that could affect the electoral process even before Election Day.
She expressed optimism that intelligence-led security deployment and proactive engagement among stakeholders would ensure a credible and violence-free election.
