Nollywood actress and African Action Congress, AAC, governorship candidate Doris Ogala on Thursday, September 18, 2026, used a video recorded from her living room to advance her campaign for the 2027 Abia State governorship election, declaring her intention to challenge incumbent Governor Alex Otti.

In the video circulating online, Ogala sat in her living room with a microphone as she addressed viewers about her political ambition and her plans for Abia State.
She spoke about jobs, infrastructure and other issues affecting residents, while urging Abians to support her bid for the state’s highest political office.
Ogala also described the forthcoming contest as “the women’s turn”, presenting her candidacy as an opportunity for women to take a more prominent role in the state’s political leadership.
The informal setting of the video has drawn attention online, with social media users offering varying reactions to the unusual campaign presentation. Some focused on the setting, while others discussed Ogala’s transition from entertainment into frontline politics.
The Doris Ogala campaign has gathered momentum since she secured the AAC governorship ticket in May.
The party’s returning officer declared her winner of its governorship primary, making her the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.
Following her emergence, Ogala outlined an agenda focused on economic growth, employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, transparency and accountability.
She has since become increasingly vocal in her criticism of the Otti administration.
In an August interview, Ogala said her motivation for entering politics was not simply to occupy public office but to make what she described as a meaningful difference in the lives of Abia residents.
“My interest in politics is not about occupying a political office but about making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people,” she said.
Ogala has also identified electricity and infrastructure among the issues she believes require urgent attention in the state.
She said her experience spending time in Abia had influenced her assessment of conditions facing residents and businesses.
Her political messaging has been notably confident. In August, Ogala described her governorship ambition as a “divine mandate” and said she believed nothing would stop her from becoming governor.
She has also previously said during a TikTok Live session that Abia residents had “no choice” but to accept her as their next governor, a statement that generated mixed reactions online.
The AAC candidate is not new to Abia politics. Reports indicate that she previously served as Special Adviser on Creative Arts, Culture and Tourism during the administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Ogala now faces a broader political field that includes Otti of the Labour Party, alongside candidates from other parties.
Her challenge will involve taking the message she has built around jobs, infrastructure, public services and economic development beyond social media and into a wider statewide campaign.
