Delta appointees resignation order issued as Governor Oborevwori mandates officials contesting 2027 elections to resign by March 31, 2026
The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Monday, 2026, in Asaba, directed all political appointees in the state intending to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2026, in a decisive move aimed at aligning with electoral regulations.

The directive, conveyed through a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu, was released via the official state government communication channels and immediately drew attention across the state’s political landscape.
Governor Oborevwori’s order applies to a wide range of officials, including commissioners, advisers, directors-general, executive assistants, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants, and other political appointees serving in Delta State.
The Delta appointees resignation order is anchored on Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, affected appointees must submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and ensure proper handover to permanent secretaries or the most senior career officers in their respective ministries and agencies.
The government stressed that strict compliance is expected, warning that the directive is mandatory for all political appointees seeking nomination or planning to participate in party primaries.
