Yakasai, popularly known as Dawisu and the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party in Kano State, announced the decision on Monday via his verified X account.
The former aide to Abdullahi Ganduje said the move followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
“Following extensive consultations, we have resolved to move to the ADC as part of a new direction,” Yakasai stated, confirming that he had completed his registration with the party.
He also encouraged interested Nigerians to join the ADC, noting that membership registration is accessible online with quick issuance of membership cards.
The defection marks a significant shift in Kano’s political landscape, especially as preparations gradually intensify for the 2027 elections.
Reactions have since trailed the development, with some supporters praising the move as bold, while critics questioned the timing and motives behind the switch.
