Makinde Accuses APC Members of Attacking Alli’s Wife, Allies

Seyi Makinde accuses APC members of attacking Sharafadeen Alli’s wife and other chieftains, rejecting claims of government involvement

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being responsible for attacks on the wife of the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, and other party chieftains, dismissing allegations that his administration sponsored the incidents.

Makinde made the claim in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Friday, October 9, 2026, following allegations by Alli that the Oyo State Government and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Abimbola Adekanmbi, were behind the attacks.

The governor described the allegations as false and irresponsible, insisting that the incidents were linked to disagreements within the opposition party rather than any government-sponsored operation.

According to the statement, eyewitness accounts indicated that the individuals involved in the attacks on Alhaja Tawakalitu Alli, the wife of Senator Alli, Engr Remi Oseni and Hon Funke Olunloyo-Osinowo were APC members caught up in internal party disagreements.

“Eyewitness accounts are clear: the individuals who attacked Alhaja Alli, Engr. Remi Oseni, and Hon. Funke Olunloyo-Osinowo were APC members caught in the middle of their party’s internal disagreements,” the statement said.

It added that the incidents were cases of an intra-party crisis and not attacks sponsored by the state government.

The governor’s media aide said attempts to implicate Makinde and Adekanmbi amounted to politicising the incidents and shifting responsibility away from the APC’s internal challenges.

The exchange followed a statement by Alli on Thursday, in which the APC governorship candidate alleged that Makinde and Adekanmbi were responsible for sponsoring hoodlums who attacked his wife and other party leaders.

The allegation was issued through Bisi Oladele, director of Alli’s campaign organisation.

Makinde rejected the claims, maintaining that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property across Oyo State.

The competing allegations have added to political tensions in the state as parties prepare for the next governorship election cycle.

The incident has raised concerns about political violence and the safety of party officials and their families in Oyo State.

While Makinde’s administration has attributed the attacks to internal APC disagreements, the allegations made by Alli represent a contrasting account of the events.

The claims and counterclaims underscore the need for a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the attacks and determine responsibility.

No independent findings establishing responsibility for the incidents were included in the statements cited in the report.
