Atiku’s wife said an Atiku one term pledge could still end with a handover to his deputy after he tutors Rotimi Amaechi, while voters might still want a second term
Atiku Abubakar’s wife, Titi Abubakar, said the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate would tutor his deputy in politics if elected in 2027 and might hand over after an Atiku one term.

Atiku Abubakar is running with former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. Atiku Abubakar’s wife spoke in a video that circulated online. She called her husband a “sellable material” and said he would not learn on the job.
“Atiku is a sellable material, that’s why I’m so proud of my husband. Atiku is not going to learn on the job and he is not a novice. By the time Atiku gets to the saddle, Nigerians will yearn for him to run for a second term. But he said he would do just one term, but Nigerians will yearn for him to come for a second term,” she said.
“Atiku doesn’t want Nigerians’ money, he just wants to give back to the society what the society has done for him because many people keep saying, ‘What is he looking for? Very soon he will be 80,’ but he wants to tutor children on how politics is being made.”
She said the economy was in a poor state and claimed Nigeria had not operated a budget since 2023.
Federal budgets have been presented and passed in that period. Her remark is a political charge, not an official fiscal record. “By the grace of God, when Atiku comes to the saddle, like I told you, people will yearn that he does a second term. By then, he would have tutored his deputy and maybe the deputy will take over from him.”
The comments mix a one-term pledge with the idea that voters might demand another term and that Rotimi Amaechi might inherit the office.

None of that is a constitutional mechanism. A president can choose not to run again. A deputy does not automatically take over at the end of a term. The ticket still has to win an election first.
