The victims were abducted on 14 November while travelling along the Gwoza–Limankara Road.

The rescue followed a coordinated mission under Operation Desert Sanity IV and Diligent Search, led by the 26 Task Force Brigade with support from Hybrid Forces, hunters, and vigilantes.

Troops advanced pre-dawn through the mountain foothills toward Uvaha, forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon their captives.

Military sources confirmed the victims, who scattered into nearby bushes during the assault, were located around 8:45 a.m. during follow-up searches.

The rescued included Fadi Musa, Jummai Manga, Hamsatu Musa, Jummai Ali, Inna Amadu, Falmata Musa, Hadiza Hamman, and five children. Many showed signs of exhaustion, blisters, injuries, and physical assault.

The victims received immediate medical attention and meals from the brigade field ambulance before being handed over to a representative of the Chairman of Gwoza Local Government Area for reunification with their families.

The Nigerian Army praised the troops for their swift and decisive action, crediting local informants and security stakeholders for timely intelligence.
