Nasir El-Rufai confirms Bello El-Rufai APC choice, highlighting personal conviction and political independence in Kaduna North
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has affirmed that his son, Bello El-Rufai, remains in the All-Progressives Congress, APC, by personal conviction, despite frequent criticism of the ruling party.

Bello El-Rufai currently represents Kaduna North in the House of Representatives.
Speaking during an appearance on BBC Hausa Service, Nasir El-Rufai emphasised that his son is free to chart his own political path.
“My son Bello was elected under the platform of the APC and his electorate appear satisfied with his work. He is over 30 years old and capable of making his own choices. Politics is about personal preference,” he said.
The former governor, now a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, described his son’s decision as a reflection of sound judgment and the home values instilled in him.
“If he wants to remain in the APC without engaging in wrongdoing, then Alhamdulillah,” Nasir El-Rufai added.
The statement came shortly after Nasir El-Rufai alleged that operatives from the Department of State Services attempted to detain him at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport upon his return from Egypt.
Legal representatives condemned the incident as a breach of due process, calling for respect of constitutional rights.
Observers noted that Bello El-Rufai’s continued membership of the APC underlines a growing trend of politicians balancing party affiliation with personal principles, an approach that has resonated with constituents in Kaduna North.
