Babachir Lawal Tinubu Atiku 2027 Claim as former SGF says Tinubu could perform better than Atiku in Nigeria’s next presidential election
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has stated that President Bola Tinubu could ultimately emerge as a better leader than African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

Babachir Lawal Tinubu Atiku 2027 Claim was made in a statement signed by the former SGF, where he outlined his political stance ahead of the next general election and expressed strong opposition to Atiku’s candidacy.
Babachir Lawal argued that, in comparative terms, President Bola Tinubu may perform better if re-elected, while describing an Atiku presidency as potentially detrimental to Nigeria’s progress.
The former SGF, who served under a previous administration, said his personal convictions would not allow him to support what he referred to as the political direction associated with Atiku and his allies.
“I believe Tinubu might, comparatively speaking, end up a better Nigerian president than Atiku could ever be,” Babachir Lawal said.
He also criticised northern political stakeholders who, according to him, continue to support Atiku despite persistent challenges of poverty and insecurity in the region.
A secondary highlight of his remarks was his broader questioning of political alignment in northern Nigeria, where he argued that leadership choices should prioritise economic recovery and improved security outcomes.
Babachir Lawal further described Atiku as unfit for the presidency, intensifying his criticism with remarks that have already sparked political debate across party lines.
“I would have thought that when Northerners insist on a northern president, they would be thinking of one that will stop the downward spiral into poverty and insecurity,” he said.
The Babachir Lawal Tinubu Atiku 2027 Claim also included a pledge by the former SGF to consult with political allies in the coming weeks on strategies aimed at preventing Atiku from securing the presidency in 2027.
“I will be tweaking my plans for the future and consulting with like-minded colleagues,” he added.

The comments add to growing political realignments and early positioning ahead of Nigeria’s next general election cycle, as key figures continue to signal support or opposition to leading contenders.
