The party’s Publicity Secretary, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, made the announcement during a press briefing in Aba, emphasising that both lawmakers obtained their mandates under APGA’s platform and should step down after leaving.
“The actions of these individuals were not unexpected. In fact, their departure is a welcome development that will help reposition and strengthen APGA in Abia State,” Nwokoro said, asserting that it would be morally proper for the defectors to vacate the seats they secured through the party.
APGA also alleged that Abaribe and Ikwechegh contributed little to the party’s growth during their tenure, accusing them of undermining progress.
The party highlighted that lessons learned from the defections would prevent opportunistic politicians from exploiting its platform in the future.
Under the leadership of Abia State Chairman Sunday Onukwubiri, APGA has begun preparations to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging aspirants to join early rather than seeking last-minute opportunities.

“APGA remains a formidable political force in Abia State, and we will not be distracted as we prepare for the 2027 elections,” Nwokoro said.
The party’s firm stance underscores its commitment to enforcing internal discipline while navigating Nigeria’s complex political landscape.
