APC Membership Figures Questioned Amid Sudden Drop

APC membership figures questioned as political analyst Sumner Sambo highlights sudden drop from 41 million to 10 million members

Political analyst Sumner Sambo has raised concerns over the credibility of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) membership figures, citing a significant drop from previous records.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Sambo noted that in March 2022, APC leadership claimed the party had 41 million registered members ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Recent statements, however, indicate the party now has about 10 million members.

“This sudden reduction raises serious questions about the accuracy of the party’s earlier claims,” Sambo said.

He pointed out that President Bola Tinubu secured approximately 8.7 million votes in the 2023 election, asking where the previously announced 41 million members had gone.

Despite the criticism, Sambo acknowledged APC’s adoption of technology in its ongoing membership registration process.

He described the digital registration as a positive step but added that the party owes Nigerians an explanation.

“Now, four years after 2022, the APC is saying it has about 10 million registered members.

The national chairman has set a target of 20 million members, which shows progress, but the earlier claim of 41 million was misleading,” he said.
