APC’s Felix Morka says PDP defections reflect the opposition’s internal crisis, not a drift toward a one-party state in Nigeria
Felix Morka has attributed the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition’s internal crisis and inability to provide a credible political platform.

Morka made the remarks on Arise Television’s morning show while addressing the growing number of politicians leaving the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The PDP is no longer able to call itself a political party. The PDP is incapable, by its own internal dysfunction, of offering its members any sensible, credible, smart, actionable platform to pursue their political aspirations,” Morka said.
He added that defections to the APC should be seen as an endorsement of the ruling party rather than evidence that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state.
“When people decamp to the APC, it is an endorsement of the party. It is a statement that the APC is able to offer what the opposition cannot offer, and that is not our fault,” Morka explained.
Addressing concerns over the country’s democratic balance, he described claims of a one-party drift as misleading.
“When people suggest that the country is turning into a one-party state, that is utterly mischievous because it does not take into account the history and realities of a democratic society like we have in Nigeria,” he said.

Morka’s comments come amid the ongoing defection of several governors and prominent PDP members to the APC, highlighting the opposition party’s deepening internal crisis.
