Amaechi Challenges Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Election Battle

Amaechi challenges Tinubu ahead of 2027 as the ADC vice presidential candidate speaks on election preparations and Nigeria’s political future

African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has challenged President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the opposition is prepared to compete when the election contest reaches the field.

Amaechi made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, where he discussed the political landscape ahead of the next presidential election.

The Amaechi challenges Tinubu comments came after the former Rivers State governor responded to claims that President Tinubu would secure victory in the 2027 election.

“Let the president continue to tell the public that he would win the election at all cost until we get to the field,” Amaechi said.

“Whatever the president wants us to do at the field, we will do it. I’m not worried about what he wants to do. We will meet at the field.”

Amaechi, who is now part of the ADC’s presidential campaign structure, also criticised the current administration, arguing that Nigeria requires significant political and economic change.

“Nigeria has to be rescued. What the president and his men are doing is insulting my faith,” he said.

The comments come as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition groups seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amaechi previously contested the APC presidential primary election in 2022 alongside Tinubu and other aspirants but lost the ticket to the former Lagos State governor.

Following his departure from the APC, Amaechi joined the ADC ahead of the 2027 election cycle and was selected as the running mate to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who is expected to lead the party’s presidential ticket.

The developing political contest is expected to intensify as parties build alliances, present policy alternatives and seek support from voters across Nigeria.

With the 2027 election approaching, political figures are increasingly focusing on public engagement, party mobilisation and strategies aimed at winning voter confidence.
