Alarming PDP Crisis Appeal Draws Global Attention

The PDP Crisis Appeal deepened on Tuesday as factional chairman Kabiru Turaki urged Donald Trump and world leaders to intervene in Nigeria’s political tension

Officials said on Tuesday that the PDP Crisis Appeal intensified as factional National Chairman Kabiru Turaki called on United States President Donald Trump and the international community to intervene in what he described as Nigeria’s worsening political turmoil.

Speaking outside the party’s national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, Turaki warned that the nation’s democracy was facing an alarming threat amid a spiralling internal conflict within the Peoples Democratic Party. He argued that the unrest had reached a point where global attention had become unavoidable.

Turaki accused the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of deploying armed thugs to disrupt scheduled activities and block access to the secretariat. He said such actions undermined democratic norms and placed the party’s survival at risk.

He issued a direct appeal to Trump, insisting that the situation extended beyond domestic politics and required urgent external intervention. He said the stakes for Nigeria’s democratic future were too critical to ignore.

Turaki declared that leaders in his faction were ready to make the ultimate sacrifice to defend what he described as the party’s mandate and the broader democratic order. He emphasised that their resolve remained firm despite mounting intimidation.

His comments came moments before rival factions clashed within the secretariat, disrupting both the Turaki-led National Working Committee meeting and the parallel session organised by the Wike-backed group led by Samuel Anyanwu. The confrontation resulted in heavy teargas deployment, causing panic among staff, party supporters and journalists who fled the premises.
