Prof. Anunobi issued this caution during the 9th Annual Conference of National and State Librarians held in Katsina, on Tuesday. The event was organized in collaboration with the Katsina State Government.

“There is a growing need to balance the use of technology with traditional learning systems,” she said.

With the theme, “Repositioning Nigerian Public Libraries: Innovation, Inclusivity, Empowerment and Partnership,” the conference focused on the evolving role of libraries in the age of digital learning.

Prof. Anunobi encouraged Nigerian youths to revive the reading culture and patronize public libraries as foundational spaces for self-development, creativity, and national values.

She also commended Governor Dikko Radda for his administration’s dedication to education, library development, and knowledge empowerment across the state.

Representing the Governor, Muhammad Musa, Commissioner for Higher, Vocational and Technical Education, reiterated that the theme aligned with the state’s vision of modernizing public libraries and promoting a reading culture among the youth.

“Conferences like this will help restore the lost glory of libraries and reestablish a strong reading culture,” he noted.

Also present, Dr. Lawal Umar, President of the Nigerian Library Association, emphasized the urgent need to revamp library services, pointing out that many public libraries either no longer exist or are in dire condition.
