Adebayo Shittu Predicts Strong Tinubu Support in South-East

Adebayo Shittu says Tinubu will gain massive South-East support in 2027, dismissing Peter Obi’s influence as waning in the region

Former Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu has voiced confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will garner substantial voter support from Nigeria’s South-East in the 2027 general election.

In a recent interview with ARISE NEWS, Shittu stated that the South-East region is gradually aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC), defying assumptions that Labour Party’s Peter Obi still holds sway.

“If you know the amount of votes that will be coming from even the South-East for APC, you’ll be shocked,” Shittu said.

The former minister attributed this shift to the growing influence of high-ranking political figures such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Minister of Works Dave Umahi, who he said would be instrumental in swaying voters toward President Tinubu.

When asked whether Peter Obi continues to shape political discourse in the region, Shittu responded bluntly:

“It doesn’t matter… What is important is for [Tinubu] to win. Even if by 10 votes, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is going to win.”

This confident declaration adds to a growing chorus of support within and outside the APC, as key figures prepare for the political battles ahead of 2027.

Despite acknowledging the country’s current economic challenges—including soaring fuel costs and the weakening naira—Shittu insisted that Tinubu’s policies would yield results in the long term.

“Nigerians are not finding it easy,” he admitted. “But… a lot of the initiatives of Tinubu now, Nigerians will come to thank him sooner than later.”

His remarks come as political alignments intensify, with notable endorsements for Tinubu’s 2027 candidacy emerging from both ruling and opposition camps.

These include figures such as Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo and Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin, who have also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s reelection bid.

Meanwhile, the opposition is not standing still. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is reportedly consolidating forces under the African Democratic Congress to mount a challenge against the APC.

As the 2027 election cycle looms, Shittu’s bold predictions reflect the APC’s strategic efforts to expand its base in regions previously considered opposition strongholds.
