Prominent economist and politician Mohammed Hayatu-Deen became the first aspirant to obtain the party’s presidential form on Friday, May 8, in what observers describe as a major step towards consolidating his ambition ahead of the general elections.
Hayatu-Deen, who is seen as a key challenger within the party’s evolving political landscape, reportedly picked up the form from the party’s National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, in Abuja.
His camp says the move signals growing momentum behind his candidacy, with pledges centred on tackling insecurity, unemployment and Nigeria’s rising cost of living.
The development comes amid heightened political tension within the party following the exit of prominent figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who recently left the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), further reshaping alliances ahead of 2027.
Speculation has also persisted around former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s influence within the ADC, with claims that internal disagreements over presidential ambitions have contributed to recent defections.
