ADC Picks Kpautagi as Niger Governorship Candidate in Landslide Victory

ADC declares Dr Mohammed Kpautagi winner of Niger State governorship primary after landslide victory across 24 local governments

The Niger State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared Dr Mohammed Kpautagi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections following a decisive victory in the party’s primary.

Kpautagi was announced winner after securing a wide margin of votes across 24 of the state’s 25 local government areas, defeating his opponent, Alhaji Idrisu Makanta.

The declaration was made on Tuesday in Minna by the Niger State Returning Officer and Secretary of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Ibrahim Mohammed, during the official announcement of results for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly primaries.

According to the result, Kpautagi polled a total of 67,924 votes, while his opponent, Usman, scored 27,769 votes across the state.

The Returning Officer described the process as compliant with party guidelines and constitution, noting that all declared winners met the requirements for their respective positions.

In the senatorial primaries, the ADC also produced candidates for Niger North, Niger East, and Niger South. Alhaji Shehu Mohammed emerged for Niger North, Muktar Ahmed was returned unopposed for Niger East, while Baba Agaie secured the Niger South ticket.

For the House of Representatives, candidates emerged across several constituencies, including Bida/Gbako/Katcha, Tafa/Gurara/Suleja, Mashegu/Wushishi/Kontagora/Mariga, Lavun/Edati/Mokwa, and Magama/Rijau among others.

Similarly, winners were announced for the Niger State House of Assembly seats across all 25 local government areas, covering constituencies such as Kontagora, Minna, Suleja, Borgu, Shiroro, Bida, Mokwa, and others.

The party leadership said the primaries were conducted in line with internal rules and electoral guidelines, adding that the exercise recorded compliance across all positions contested.

The ADC is expected to intensify preparations as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections in Niger State and across the country.
