ADC, Labour Party Slam INEC’s South-West Voter Numbers as Dubious

ADC, Labour Party slam INEC over South-West voter figures, calling Osun’s spike in registrations implausible, demand audit of CVR data

ADC, Labour Party slam INEC over what they call statistically implausible voter registration figures, particularly in Osun State, from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

In separate statements, both opposition parties questioned the legitimacy of the data released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which showed the South-West accounting for 67% of new registrations nationwide—an unusually high figure, they argue, given past electoral patterns.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a statement signed by its Acting National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, described the figures as inconsistent with both demographic and historical trends.

“Osun recorded 393,269 pre-registrations in just one week, more than it managed over an entire four-year electoral cycle. This is not just unusual—it is statistically implausible,” the ADC stated.

The party is now calling for a forensic audit of the figures, warning that if left unchecked, the anomaly could undermine the credibility of the 2027 elections.

The Labour Party also criticized INEC, with its Interim National Publicity Secretary, **Tony Akeni, accusing the electoral body of “giving advance notice of fraud” in future elections.

“We are tired of INEC’s shenanigans… We could end up seeing names like Michael Jackson and Donald Trump in the 2027 voter register if Nigerians are not vigilant,” Akeni warned.

INEC dismissed the allegations, attributing the uproar to a lack of understanding of voter registration trends. The commission maintained that its data is accurate and verifiable.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) also defended the electoral body. Its spokesperson, Ejimofor Opara, urged opposition parties to avoid alarmism, adding:

“Figures don’t lie. If INEC says the South-West has the highest pre-registrations, then that’s the data available.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun welcomed the registration spike, interpreting it as a sign of political readiness ahead of upcoming elections.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), however, said only INEC could explain the figures, distancing itself from the statistical debate.

“Another party cannot do INEC’s job. If there’s a real query, let it be addressed officially,” said Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi.

As the CVR continues, pressure mounts on INEC to provide transparency and assure Nigerians that the registration process is not being manipulated behind the scenes.
