Shettima Accuses ADC of Fake Memberships, Slams Opposition

Vice President Kashim Shettima criticises ADC fake memberships, accusing opposition parties of lies and hypocrisy ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections

Vice President Kashim Shettima has criticised the opposition, particularly the African Democratic Congress, alleging that its membership portal was overwhelmed with fake names and fictitious identities, and condemned what he described as the reliance of opposition parties on “lies and hypocrisy.”

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at an interfaith Ramadan and Lent breaking of fast at the State House, Shettima insisted that the ruling All Progressives Congress is now in a stronger political position than during the 2023 elections.

“The same people who were adamant that we must have electronic transmission of votes opened their portal for membership registration, and it was flooded with fake names and fictitious identities,” Shettima said.

He further criticised the broader opposition landscape, quoting Winston Churchill to underscore his point about falsehoods driving politics. “Lies, lies, lies that is what is driving the opposition in this country,” the Vice President added.

Shettima encouraged APC members and political leaders present to remain united and support the administration as the political season approaches.

He also highlighted the voluntary nature of recent defections to the APC, stating that governors from Rivers, Delta, Kano, and other states joined the party of their own accord after recognising its appeal.
