The announcement was made on Wednesday by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

Yilwatda, who hails from Plateau State, noted that Mutfwang’s defection means all states in the North Central geopolitical zone are now governed by the APC.

President Bola Tinubu presided over the meeting, which also included six other governors recently defecting from the PDP.

The governor’s Political Adviser, Mr. Istifanus Nwansat, explained that internal crises within the PDP and a strategic assessment of political risks prompted the move.

“From our assessment and analysis of all available options, we have concluded that the decision with the least risk is to move into the APC,” Nwansat said, adding that aligning with the ruling party would support Plateau State’s development and governance agenda.

The defection follows a rally in Jos organised by a coalition of PDP members from Plateau State’s 17 local government areas.

The group, led by Mr. Christopher Danjem, urged Mutfwang to join the APC, describing the move as necessary for good governance and enhanced federal collaboration.

Danjem highlighted the Federal Government’s recent engagement with Plateau, including a visit by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as evidence of the benefits of alignment. He said,
