The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has attributed the car accident involving its newly elected president, Abubakar Yakubu, to an unexpected mechanical brake failure.

The disclosure was made on Thursday by outgoing AGN president Emeka Rollas, who stated that Yakubu “cooperated fully with law enforcement and emergency responders as a law-abiding citizen.”
The incident, which occurred in Surulere, Lagos, on Tuesday, 9 December, tragically claimed the life of a child and left the child’s mother injured, receiving medical attention at a local hospital.
Yakubu had been elected president of AGN on Saturday, 6 December 2025, defeating actress Rita Daniels, making the accident particularly shocking as it happened less than 72 hours after his victory.
Rollas emphasised that the accident was purely mechanical, not due to driver error, and urged the public to await the outcome of ongoing investigations.
