Chief Olabode George Celebrates 80 with National Leaders

Chief Olabode George 80th birthday celebrated in Lagos with top Nigerian leaders praising his service and urging youth dedication.

Chief Olabode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, celebrated his 80th birthday in Lagos on Saturday, attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Gen.

Ike Nwachukwu, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The occasion recognised George’s decades of service as both a military officer and political leader.

President Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, hailed George for his lifelong dedication, recalling past disagreements and George’s vow to go into exile, which he later rescinded to work for national progress.

Governor Makinde commended George’s resilience and leadership, particularly during political challenges in the Peoples Democratic Party, while Senator Bala Mohammed described him as a cerebral, hardworking mentor.

Mrs Ronke Okunsanya, former Commissioner for Information under George, called him a “destiny helper,” and Dele Ogedengbe praised his unwavering focus through personal and legal trials.

George addressed the gathering, reflecting on his career and urging youths to commit to nation-building.

He said, “To the young people of this country, my sons and daughters, and the future of this great country, I say this with love: do not give up on Nigeria.”

The event also marked the launch of George’s memoir, highlighting his enduring influence on Nigeria’s political and military spheres.
