Mulikat Abiola, ex-Osun lawmaker, joins APC governorship race to champion women’s political representation ahead of August 2026 election.
Mulikat Abiola, a former lawmaker representing Ifelodun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress governorship race ahead of the 8 August 2026 election.

The APC has scheduled its governorship primary for 13 December, with at least seven aspirants already obtaining nomination forms.
Key contenders include former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore; former Deputy Governor, Mr Benedict Alabi; immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Mr Bola Oyebamiji; and Lagos-based engineer Dideolu Falobi.
Abiola is currently the only female candidate to have purchased a form.
In a statement personally signed and obtained in Osogbo on Thursday, Abiola said her decision was motivated by the persistent marginalisation of women in politics.
She stressed the need to raise political awareness among women and secure greater representation in leadership positions.
“Osun is our common patrimony, not the entitlement of a section of people. This is the time to have a female governor at the helm of affairs of our dear state. Enough is enough! Women must take their rightful position,” Abiola said.
The former lawmaker, who served from 2018 to 2023, said she remained undeterred by the earlier entry of other aspirants and expressed confidence in winning both the party primary and the governorship election.
“All I know is that I am confident. I will win the party’s primary and the governorship election come August 2026,” she stated, highlighting her commitment to restoring political equity and advancing the role of women in state governance.
